
BIOGRAPHY
Performer, Composer and Teacher, Sean Lanigan possesses a rare combination of deep musical knowledge, united with excellent instrumental abilities and a creative personality.
Born in Ireland, he graduated from University College Dublin and Trinity College London. He started playing drums at a young age and shortly after picked up the acoustic and then electric guitar. His teachers include John Flynn for electric guitar and improvisation and Eamon Sweeney for classical guitar in Ireland. Sean attended the Freak Guitar masterclass in Sweden with Mattias la Eklundh. His electric guitar technique was self-taught through listening to and attending concerts of guitarists such as Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Romeo of Symphony X, Jason Becker and Matthias IA Eklundh.
From a young age Sean played in numerous bands including the thrash metal band Legion, the Iron Maiden tribute Ireland Maiden, the progressive metal band Mirrors of Obsidian and has appeared numerous times on Irish TV and radio.
Sean is the joint composer and performer of the duo Labirinto with Swiss harpist Chiara Pedrazzetti. Labirinto is regularly invited to play concerts and give masterclasses around the world. So far the duo has been enjoying performing and teaching at prestigious festivals in Europe (such as Moscow Harp Festival, ArfaVita Festival, Porto Harp Week, Swiss Harp Festival, NovAria Festival Celtico) U.S.A., South America (Rio Harp Festival) and Canada (World Harp Congress) and has recordings and live radio interviews to their credit.
Sean is a founding member of the traditional Irish Music band Pentafoglio and he enjoys arranging and performing the beautiful music of his origin country.
He is an enthusiastic teacher, with infinite patience he helps everyone to be comfortable with the guitar and to reach their goals.
He currently lives in Switzerland and is working on a new CD recording project of self-composed music.
